I love the Harry Potter books. I am seventeen and wondering if there are any other good books I would like?

Katie asked:

I started reading when the first book came out, and now I have finished the last one. I have never enjoyed reading anything as much as reading Harry Potter. What other books would I like? I don’t want like another series necessarily, but a book that is equally as well written and fun to read as the books. Does anyone have any suggestions? And please remember, I am seventeen so nothing too young! Thanks!

  1. Bekka Says:

I think the Saga of Darren Shan (Cirque du Freak) are really entertaining. They’re about a kid (Darren Shan) who gets tuned into a vampire, and then tells his tale. I really enjoyed it. They books are quick reads because they’re compelling

One - Cirque du Freak: A Living Nightmare
    Two - Vampire’s Assistant
    Three - Tunnels of Blood
    Four - Vampire Mountain
    Five - Trials of Initiation
    Six - Vampire Prince
Seven - Hunters of the Dusk
Eight - Allies of the Night
Nine - Killers of the Dawn
    Ten - Lake of Souls
    Eleven - Lord of Shadows
    Twelve - Sons of Destiny

  2. DRbabyGurl Says:

you should read the twilight series. it starts with twilight, new moon, and eclipse is coming out august 7th. they are by stephenie meyer

  3. looloo08 Says:

A Great and Terrible Beauty & Rebel Angels(witches and other relms) by Libba Bray (Reb. Ang. was better), The Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer(vampires and werewolfs), and The Morganville Vampires series. The Twilight series I liked as musch as if not better than Harry Potter. There also is the Gardella Vampire Chronicles but it does have some “scenes” in it.

  4. B.B. Says:

As a seventeen year-old, you are possibly mature enough to read Anne Rice novels. I was reading them at thirteen and the content and language, though more mature than any HP book, is supported by a deeply interesting and involved plot. The movies don’t do the books justice.

You might also like to read His Dark Materials Trilogy. Now, these books are on about the same literary level as Harry Potter, but are pretty compelling as well. I also think you might get a kick out of reading Mythology by Edith Hamilton. Don’t read all the stories-I didn’t, but just the more popular ones that you already know the names of.

If it won’t offend you, read Angels and Demons and the Davinci Code.

  5. Kortni L Says:

i recomenned the lightning thief series by rick riordan and inkheart and inkspell by corrnelia funke.niether of them are about wizards though.the lightning thief series is about a kid named percy jackson and his dad is posiden, the greek god of water, and he has to do missions for the greek gods.and inkheart is about a girl named meggie and her father mo and he has has a book that his enemy wants so desperatly that he will kill anyone to get it.i havent finished inkspell yet but it is really godo so far.youll love these books!!

  6. dramaqueen#1XOXO Says:

eragon…all i can think of rite now. wait, mayb the da vinci code, but it’s not fanasy.

  7. B Scott Says:

The Belgariad by David Eddings (this is a five book series starting with Pawn of Prophecy)
The Sword of Truth Series by Terry Goodkind ( this is a ten book series starting with Wizard’s First Rule)

  8. ghost Says:

all good answers so far. i would add, Mercedes Lackey the Valdemar books
The Arrows of the Queen, arrows flight, arrow fall, Magics pawn, Magics Promise, Magics Price, they generally go in trilogy’s theres are about 23 books altogether i think, some are trilogy’s some duolgys and a couple singles. but the best place to start is with the Arrows books.
you might try Piers Anthony he has a lot of Sci-fi or Fantasy series. Anne Bishop, Anne Mccafferty the Dragons of Pern series are really good as well.

and i could go on forever. i love reading so i also love sharing my adventures with anyone willing to read them as well. good luck and i hope you find more books to enjoy as much as Harry Potter.

  9. magickalbear Says:

I would strongly suggest The Incarnations of Immortality series by Piers Anthony as well as his Xanth series (but you have to enjoy puns to really get into Xanth - but overall they are an amazing read… plus there is about 30+ of that series now so you’ll have lots to read!).

Also, if you want to go into a more Sci-fi route, I would suggest Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card and Ender’s Shadow… and all of the books that follow that story line. Ender’s Game is about Ender Wiggins and Ender’s Shadow is about a boy named Bean. Ender’s Shadow re-tells the first book a bit but from a completely different perspective and the subsequent books in the Shadow series follow Bean, who is an amazing character.

Another great fantasy book is Tithe by Holly Black. I haven’t read any of her other books but that is a highly enjoyable read as well.
